  • The correct way to attack using a unique variation of the Russian Tie and five finishes from that tie, including the Bonsai Arm Throw
  • A dominating front headlock series including the Culpa and the Schultz
  • Proper technique for executing arm throws, shoulder throws and body locks
  • Three versions of the head-and-arm, including a finishing technique and effective counter
Upper Body Technique
Every complete wrestler needs to possess several five point moves that can be executed with confidence at any point in the match. Coach Hermann demonstrates 16 different five point moves. These takedowns are high percentage moves, many of which will work in all three wrestling styles: Folkstyle, Freestyle and Greco-Roman.

Coach Hermann also focuses on attacking from several different positions, including the Russian Tie, front headlock and an Underhook Series. In his front headlock series, you will learn high percentage moves such as the "Culpa" and the "Dave Shultz" that are used on the elite world level, yet simple enough to be applied in any wrestling room. Coach Hermann presents several moves for advanced wrestlers such as the Korean Front Head Lock.

Additionally, Coach Hermann adds a unique finish to an arm drag, a drill for developing quick hands and a way to negate an opponent's strength to apply a chicken wing.

Coach Hermann presents moves in a step-by-step, easy to understand fashion, with language that is clear and specific. During the instruction phase, each move is broken down into sub-steps with critical phases highlighted. Also, moves are shown at various vantage points to give the full benefit of visual learning. Coach Hermann then shows what each technique looks like at live wrestling speed several times so viewers can put the move together visually.

Upper body wrestling is an often overlooked aspect in today's wrestling environment. Every wrestler needs to know five point moves when they are down in a match. These techniques are essential for wrestlers who want to learn to score from the tie up position in all three wrestling styles.

This DVD is comprised of many of the best and most comprehensive upper body techniques available. Coach Hermann is a highly sought after coach and clinician - take advantage of his expertise by learning explosive upper body moves!

Teach your athletes how to chain wrestle from a wide array of critical positions.

Olympian Ken Chertow covers a broad range of techniques from critical situations in the neutral, top, and bottom positions. His instruction includes:

  • Re-shots - Re-attack your opponent following his shot and, while he is coming up and his momentum is forward, change levels to execute a re-shot.
  • Frontal Assault Position - This aggressive sprawling position leads to punishing moves like the snake, the twister, cradle and face lock.
  • Scoring When Stuck Underneath Your Opponent - Defend your opponent's front headlock by controlling the elbow and looking for moves like the cross knee dump, outside fireman's carry, sucker drag, and peek out.
  • Cross-Wrist Roll Series - Coach Chertow presents a series of tilts designed to take your opponent to his back and allow you to score points quickly with the cross-wrist roll, rebar tilt, and ball and chain series.
  • Bottom Techniques - Wrestlers often struggle to get off the bottom with conventional stand-ups. When your opponent's top pressure prevents you from doing a stand-up, it's a good time to hip heist and execute a move like a side roll to take your opponent directly to his back.
With every technique, Coach Chertow emphasizes the most important details that make the move work.

Cover: stand ups, knee slides and critical bottom skills and techniques
Stand ups, Knee Slides and Critical Bottom Skills and Techniques
with Ian Assael,
full time Camp Director for Ken Chertow's Gold Medal Wrestling Camps;
former high school coach who developed 14 state champions and two high school All-Americans

Getting off the bottom is essential to being successful in wrestling.

Ian Assael, Camp Director at Ken Chertow Wrestling, gives you the technique you need to score from the bottom against tough opponents. Maintaining shoulder-knee alignment is essential for getting weight off of the bottom man's hands, which is critical for standing up, as well as executing reversals.

Coach Assael starts off detailing the proper position from the bottom, then goes through the mechanics of a proper stand-up step-by-step. He focuses on recovery using the knee-slide technique, which is an essential skill for all wrestlers, as they will not always escape off the whistle. Coach Assael shows a knee-slide to a stand-up with back pressure when the top man pushes forward. Other knee-slide variations include a hip heist when the top man rides your hips, and a high turn when the top man chops.

Coach Assael also details a wide array of bottom wrestling that will help your wrestlers win the battle on the mat. You will learn several key concepts from bottom and watch as Coach Assael continually reinforces them through coaching cues and drills: pressure back, get hips under shoulders, seal off, get your hands off the mat, and be aggressive on bottom. You'll get an in-depth look at:

  • High Turn - Going from bottom to top and scoring 5 by securing a Peterson
  • Getting off your stomach and properly building a base
  • Defending the chop - executing a quarter turn to a knee-slide
  • Protecting and clearing your wrists to prevent tilts and other turns
Coach Assael covers several drills to help your wrestlers master these techniques and continuously maintain a position from which they can score. These drills include a takedown to knee-slide recovery drill, a rear standing lift to knee-slide and stand up drill, and a sit out and turn in drill with a variety of realistic scenarios the bottom man may face.

Coaches and wrestlers who study and implement the drills in this DVD will see improved positioning and results from the bottom position.

Combination Wrestling from the Top Position: Tilts and Leg Turns
with Barry Davis,
University of Wisconsin Head Coach;
Olympic Silver Medalist, 3X NCAA Champion at Iowa

Turning an opponent, especially a good one, is one of the most difficult aspects of wrestling. In this video, Barry Davis demonstrates how combination wrestling can earn you more back points. And more back points leads to more wins!

Coach Davis stresses the importance of moving from one move to another in order to be more effective at scoring from the top position. He shows how a hip tilt can lead to a leg turn, a leg turn can lead to an arm bar, and an arm bar can lead back to a hip tilt. The combinations are endless. The key is to stay ahead of your opponent mentally. While your opponent is on their back, you are thinking of the next possible turn. A turn that will lead to more points and more victories.

Davis sets up his combination series with the hip tilt and builds off of it. He uses three and four-way combinations. You will learn how to effectively implement combinations using hip tilts, near wrist tilts, far wrist tilts, arm bar tilts, roll through tilts, leg turks and more. The combinations keep coming, along with the points.

Using combination wrestling from the top position will keep your opponent off balance, leaving them baffled and broken. Davis' teaching will provide you with the tools you need to become a better wrestler. You will begin to strategize, think and move quicker than your opponent. You will always have an edge on top.

Middle school and high school coaches alike will be pleased with the results they get by implementing Davis' combination series. Likewise, wrestlers will start to see immediate results as they begin to score more and more points.

Combination wrestling will help you think and move more effectively from the top position, which will confuse and break your opponent giving your wrestlers the chance to score more points - all of which leads to more victories.
