The Triangle Offense: Finding Success with Three Middles
with Jeff Carroll,
Billings (MT) High School Head Coach;
8x Montana State Champions

Are you limiting the strengths of your athletes? Does your offense take advantage of your player's strengths? Coach Carroll feels that the Triangle Offense has been the single most valuable tool in his program's success. In this on-court AVCA convention presentation, Carroll shares with you what the triangle offense is, what it does, and how it can help you. Carroll likes the triangle because of the high number of one-on-one situations that it creates-often to the disadvantage of your opponent. Carroll takes you through all six rotations with precise, easy-to-follow instructions, strategies and nuances for each set. For each rotation, he provides a detailed walk-through followed by live ball demonstrations. The triangle offense will allow you to be tactically creative, allow your players to do what they do best and create excitement in your program!

Russ Rose's Back Row Attack
with Russ Rose,
Penn State University Head Coach;
2007 & 1999 NCAA Champs,
2007 AVCA D-I Coach of the Year,
over 900 career coaching victories,
recognized by USA Volleyball as one of their All-Time Great Coaches in 2005

Russ Rose believes that a key component to the future of volleyball is the implementation of the back row attacker. Coach Rose notes that as the game evolves there are more opportunities to use players in different areas of the court, and that the back row is a critical area to develop for increasing a team's ability to score points. Rose begins by teaching you strategies and drills to develop a back row player's awareness of the proper position from which to take a quality swing. He includes footwork and zone identification drills - both with and without the ball. Rose also includes seven drills and situational options that will assist you in implementing the workings of the back row attack. Rose concludes with seven drills and scenarios focusing on the technical aspects for utilizing your back row as a viable scoring threat. Give your team an additional scoring option with Rose's back row techniques.

Cover: winning strategy for the 6-2 offensive system
Winning Strategy for the 6-2 Offensive System
with John Knuth,
Marysville HS (MI) Head Coach;
over 1,000 coaching victories,
2X National Coach of the Year;
9X State Champs (including eight in a row);
192 consecutive wins ('96-'00) is #4 most all-time nationally!

The 6-2 Offensive System relates to having six attackers and two setters in the offense. According to Coach Knuth, the benefits of this offense are that it keeps three attackers in the front row, utilizes two setters that are also skilled attackers and the coach can substitute shorter players in the front row. Another advantage is that after rotation libero can be replaced by a defender. Knuth explains all of the basic offensive positions and the various rotations they make in the offense. Serve receive is an important part of the 6-2 offense. He also demonstrates three set plays out of this offense. A good drill package accompanies the teaching points and keys. Drills help set the offense, and develop front and back row attacks. Knuth does an excellent job of analyzing each play option, highlighting the responsibility of each position. Overall, this is a complete look at this winning offensive attack.

Cover: winning strategy for the 4-2 offensive system
Winning Strategy for the 4-2 Offensive System
with John Knuth,
Marysville HS (MI) Head Coach;
over 1,000 coaching victories,
2X National Coach of the Year;
9X State Champs (including eight in a row);
192 consecutive wins ('96-'00) is #4 most all-time nationally!

The 4-2 offensive system features four attackers and two setters. Advantages to this offense are: It is a simple offense, the setter is always in the front row, it can utilize immobile setters and the offense can run with less accurate passing. Coach Knuth's basic alignment calls for two front line players watching the serve. On the serve, they rotate back to their positions, putting the setter back in the middle. Another alignment is the International 4-2 set, sometimes called the right side 4-2. The International is a quicker offense and sets are in front of the dominant hand. Knuth covers the five person serve receive, the "U" serve receive and the three-person serve receive. The 4-2 numbering system goes from 1 to 5, depending on how high and how far out the set up is. Front row attack drills are demonstrated as well as back row attack drills. Knuth includes the offense vs. zero drill, which is a key part of practicing this offense.
