former Dubuque Wahlert HS Head Coach,
11x state champions, 7x Iowa coach of the year and 2003 National coach of the year.

Take your opponent our of their rhythm, out of their serve receive and out of their offense

As an 11-time State Champion High School Coach Tom Keating has gained the respect and admiration of his peers. He is one of the best High School volleyball coaches in the nation.

Coach Keating shares his philosophy on how to disrupt your opponent and apply pressure with good serve and serve receive techniques. Keating makes these techniques as simple as possible while eliminating unnecessary movement. Starting with basic concepts and progressing into the specific application techniques, these skills and concepts are easily transferable to a variety of skill levels.

You will see high school level athletes demonstrate the floater, jump floater, and top spin serve. The modeling of these serves takes abstract concepts and makes them concrete and easy to understand. The demonstrators provide a full speed demonstration of each serve, followed by Keating's step-by-step build up of the skill, followed by more full speed demonstrations.

Keating then walks you through zone serving and how to use it to disrupt your opponent's offense. Several serving drills are included to fine tune accuracy while maximizing practice reps.

In the second half of the video, Keating breaks down the important elements of serve receive passing. Demonstrators model the proper body positioning starting with the feet and working up to the head. Once body position is established, he demonstrates proper footwork and movement patterns. The drills used in this section focus on training the early stages of passing and end with more complex movement patterns.

This is a good training video for coaches at any level - junior high, high school and club. At the beginning of each segment, Coach Keating reviews the fundamentals of each technique and follows up with a series of drills created to ingrain the desired mechanics. You will discover critical elements that need to be incorporated and rehearsed during practice in order to have success. Cue words are provided to enable you to communicate more accurately with your athletes in effort to correct unwanted behavior and reinforce proper technique.

The skills taught in this video will give your players and your team a competitive edge in the serve and serve receive phases of the game.

Put your attackers is position to terminate the ball!

Tom Keating introduces the proper hand position, contact point, and follow-through for setting the ball. High school players then demonstrate a drill progression that takes players from simple hand contact through front and back sets. This is followed by seven group drills that reinforce setting techniques. Coach Keating then covers footwork patterns that will help setters transition from serve receive to target from six rotations. Defensive transition footwork progressions begin with just a setter in base defense and gradually add passers and attackers to simulate game conditions.

The second half of the video focuses on attacking technique. Coach Keating first breaks down the mechanics of a quality arm swing, showing two drills to help emphasize proper form and contact point. He then examines each step of a three-step approach, providing an explanation of the roles that the hips, feet, and arms play in take-off. Keating takes his players through a thorough demonstration of transition footwork patterns from the free ball, block, and digging positions. This is further divided into patterns for left, right, and middle attackers.

The two disciplines of setting and hitting are combined to include the transition game for both setters and hitters through a series of attacker transition drills.

This informative video does a great job of articulating the mechanics that make up the setting and attacking skills, and then shows how players can use these skills in game situations. Coach Keating provides an abundance of teaching points that coaches can use to convey these skills to players.

Order now and put your offense in high gear!

Effectively defend various types of attacks with proper body position.

Tom Keating covers all aspects of defense starting with the first line of defense - blocking. Blocking is more than just stuffing the ball for points. Keating introduces proper blocking form by explaining effective hand, arm and hip positioning. This is followed by a progressive series of stretching exercises that will help to reinforce blocking technique. Learn four footwork patterns that will help your blockers efficiently span the net.

Keating closes the blocking segment by explaining how to gain effective position versus the attacker, and when to jump in order to maximize block potential. A series of block jump drills provides quality repetitions to train necessary footwork techniques while conditioning your athletes. Keating also includes one- and two-hand blocking drills to emphasize hand positioning in order to control the ball.

The next segment of the video focuses on defensive philosophy and technique. Coach Keating discusses the importance of team communication and how to read the opposing team in order to better defend them. He then breaks down defensive posture and passing technique. He further explains how to make adjustments in the digging posture based on the speed and trajectory of the attack.

The video ends with five defensive drills that emphasize communication, movement, ball control, and aggressiveness. The series starts with pepper drills that focus on the mechanics of defensive digging. He finishes the session with team oriented drills that put the digging mechanics and philosophies into action.

Serve Receive Offense: This segment explains how to run a diverse, multiple hitter quick-attackoffense without calling set plays. You'll see how Nebraska structures the flow and movement of a practice, which he demands execution at every phase, along with accountability even in the simplest drills.

In over 10 hours of practice instruction you'll see pre-practice conditioning circuits, individual drill progressions that lead up to six-on-six competition, end of practice stretching routines and closed door team meeting sessions. Other features of this 5-disc package include:

  • A lighter weight practice day where the coaching staff is getting in a maximum amount of repetitions for each player in a game-like situation. Coach Cook's areas of focus are from the organized stretching at the beginning of practice, to a comprehensive training session, then shifting to a cool down process, then a post practice view of a team discussion on the values that are at the heart of the program.
  • A "morning practice" format that features 'no jump' training to save the legs of the athletes. Coach Cook starts with a partner ball control series that focuses on shoulder rotation during the attack, platform angle management and complex series. The practice then progresses to a 2 v 2 series of competitive games, and ends with full court game-like drills. Over all the major emphasis is on the first contact: defense & serve receive.
  • A "Recovery Day." This single practice, after two-a-days the previous two days, shows the Nebraska squad working on Serving, Passing, Blocking and Digging with a focus on footwork. At the end of practice, Coach Cook breaks into individual drills, giving you an excellent look at the "Shadow Drill" as the Nebraska girls are taught proper footwork and transitioning, and their aggressive "Ball Group" drills that teaches the team defensive coverage and digging. Practice closes with a "behind closed doors" look at a team meeting.
And much, much more!
