Training the core provides many athletic benefits including injury prevention and performance enhancement. Coach Norman believes core work should serve as the foundation for all training activities, and must be a priority in any training program. The first section on Core Stability includes more than 15 exercises designed to strengthen the muscles that support and stabilize the spine. The Dying Bug Progression, Stability Ball Supine Resistance, and Transverse Cable Rotation are a few examples of stability exercises utilized by Norman to train elite level athletes. The next series includes over 25 exercises for Core Strengthening, which is broken down into sagital, rotary, and multi-planar movements. Combo Crunch progressions, Upward Cable Rotations, Bosu Supermans, and Coach Norman's unique Manual Resisted Lying Hip Rotation exercise is presented. Lastly, Core Power training in the transverse and sagital plane is demonstrated. These drills involve ballistic movements with the Medicine Ball that are common to many sport-specific requirements. Coach Norman presents several Side Toss and Overhead Toss variations. In conclusion, Norman outlines two variations of program design and implementation options; integrated core training and isolated core training.

In the initial phase of training for any athlete, entry-level drills should focus on; static and dynamic balance, foot speed and coordination, force reduction, first step quickness, base agility, linear speed mechanics, and base conditioning. Likewise Base Movement Training is the foundation of Coach Norman's Movement Progression Training philosophy. Most athletes, coaches, and trainers overlook this phase of training as they fail to develop the fundamental abilities of body control and "oneness" in their athletes. It is this phase of training that prepares the athlete for the more intense and advanced training routines required to optimize performance, and without it, athletes will either limit their success and/or sustain unwarranted injuries. Coach Norman utilizes a structured approach to teach a proven system of training methodology for overall athletic development. In addition to a detailed explanation of Base Stance Mechanics, the viewer will learn numerous drills performed with the agility ladder, low hurdles, plyometric boxes, various cone drills, weighted sleds and much more. Mostly, you will learn how to effectively incorporate a variety of training components safely into your program, with the confidence and knowledge required to initiate the appropriate performance training process with any multi-sport athlete. Although considered entry-level within Norman's system of performance enhancement, the drills in this video are challenging and intense, and greatly improve an athlete's internal awareness and athletic ability. Knowing yourself as a person and athlete is more important than knowing your opponent. This DVD on self-awareness deals with the athletes looking at themselves to maximize his or her potential. Jerry facilitates three different group/team activities that are designed to have the athletes/team to take an introspective look at themselves, their behaviors and habits. These activities involve penning answers to questions that relate to present behavioral traits. Once these behaviors are identified, Jerry helps the athletes look at those that are productive and/or counterproductive and assists in helping the athletes make positive changes to better work towards their goals by embracing the habits of champions. To bridge words on the paper to the mind, Lynch teaches athletes how to visualize these behaviors and feel the changes. The value of these exercises can be seen before, during and after the season. Lynch has a unique ability to get on the same page with the athletes he teaches in these dynamic group settings and this DVD will help you to do and be the same.

Once an athlete has been effectively progressed through Coach Norman's Base Movement Training regimen, it is now time to turn up the demands and take your training to a whole new level. Coach Norman demonstrates over 150 demanding, intense exercises for advanced development of athletes. The first series of drills are Force Production drills, also known as "plyometrics," which are continuous and repetitive drills designed to stimulate and train fast twitch muscle fibers. There are 13 plyometric drills in the vertical series, and 23 drills in the second series that address lateral, diagonal, horizontal and upper body plyometric training. Resisted Force Production training is also an intense portion of this second series, and Coach Norman describes three key drills he utilizes to train elite level athletes. Training tools include low and high hurdles, medicine balls, weight belts, and bungee cords. Force production with movement is an advanced 18 drill series that combines sprinting and change of direction with explosive movements. The next segment is dedicated to quick feet and change of direction. In part one, 30 challenging drills are demonstrated and coaching points highlighted. Part two is a 26-drill package that pushes athletes physically and mentally to the limit. Cones are used creatively in 25 different agility drills. A comprehensive set of 11 exercises, the reactive agilities, is applicable to many game-like situations. Norman also shares 21 challenging exercises in the area of resisted/assisted agilities that make up the core of his advanced training program. To conclude the DVD, Coach Norman describes his post workout partner stretching routine for enhanced flexibility and effective recovery.
