There are many advantages to the 50 Defense. The defense does not require great size and it's simple to teach and learn. The goal is to build a wall and push the offense to the outside. A disadvantage of the 50 is that it is not great against the pass and is not a penetrating attack. In putting together the defense, everything begins with the nose guard.
