Coaching High School Football: The 3-4 Attacking Defense
with Eric Reis, Manteca (CA) High School Head Coach, 2006 Coach of the Year; and Rick James, Manteca HS (CA) Defensive Coordinator As high school coaches, Eric Reis and Rick James understand the challenges of implementing a defensive system with undersized players. It also allows you flexibility to use many different kinds of rushes to confuse the opposing quarterback, and, it makes it easier to cover multiple offensive formations with adjustments in the secondary. Coach James emphasizes aggressiveness at all positions, discussing the physical and mental characteristics that each player needs to execute his respective role in the 3-4. He also covers the defensive alignments and blitz gaps that he uses with his team. James uses diagrams to reveal a dozen defensive play calls and shares game footage to show the plays in action. 49 minutes. 2008.

Developing 2 Gap Lineman for the 3-4 Defense
with Mike Fanoga, New Mexico State University Defensive Line CoachCoach Fanoga's passion for football begins in the trenches - the defensive line. Fanoga begins with lining up and stance for the D linemen. The ends are backed off the ball about 16 inches and use inside hand. The nose can crowd the ball or back off and has the green light. Stance starts with a wide base, wider than the shoulders and a flat back. The ends take care of the A, B, and the C gap. The nose is responsible for the two A gaps. Fanoga likes the uniqueness of this defense and teaches players on a sweep to read and play right down the line of scrimmage. The technique is lateral steps down the line, which he calls "pound his feet." Every thing the offense does, the defense reacts to it. The nose is in charge of cut backs in this scheme. In the two-gap defense, players are taught the zone, scoop, base, down and double team blocks. Game footage drives home the technique that Fanoga covers on the white board. Footage of a dozen drills for offense linemen conclude this excellent presentation. 50 minutes. 2007.

3-4 Defense Stunt Attacks
with Wayne Nunnely, San Diego Chargers Defensive Line CoachLed by Wayne Nunnely, the Charger 3-4 defense has recently ranked as high as third in the NFL against the run allowing only 81.7 yards per game and held their opponents to just 3.7 yards per carry! Coach Nunnely brings 30 years of football coaching experience to this DVD and shares stunts from the strong side and the weak side. The presentation begins by naming each of the linebackers according to their specific coverage. For example, the strong side stunt is called the "Sam Bullet", lining up in a 9 technique on the outside shoulder of the tight end. He will either stunt inside or outside of the tight end. Nunnely goes on to name and define each; the strong side end, the nose, the weak side end, the weak outside linebacker ("Will"), the "Mo" linebacker, the strong side linebacker ("Mike"). Coach Nunnely also details coverage for a strong side run and a weak side run for all 7 positions. Each of the stunts in this DVD is illustrated using game footage. Coach Nunnely explains the entire system also from the eyes of the "Will" backer, introducing the Will Bullet, Will Easy, Will Jax and Will Cross. The Mike Rush is an inside stunt run by the Chargers. The Mike will rush through the "B" gap or the "A" gap based on the offensive set. Any coach that runs the 3-4 defense can learn a great deal and incorporate these NFL stunts into your game plan. By developing a strong side, weak side, and inside stunt attack, your defense will make every yard a struggle for your opponent! 53 minutes. 2006.
