Five-Star Basketball: Pick, Pop & Roll Offense
with Scott Adubato, Five-Star Basketball Coach/Instructor; Seton Hall University Assistant Coach; former Memphis Grizzlies (NBA) Assistant CoachAccording to Coach Adubato, the pick, pop and roll is a menace to defenses because it forces them to make decisions and causes mismatches on the floor. Many times this style can get the opponents players into foul trouble and forces rotations and scrambling on the part of the defense. The pick and roll can be executed all over the floor; on top, side, corner, elbow, and in transition. Adubato takes each area of the floor and explains the offensive strategies involved. Starting with the side pick and roll, the Z effect and the controlled back down dribble are presented as options to get to screen level. At each on ball screen, there are many options for the dribbler. The drills demonstrated will make your pick and roll game more effective if you integrate them into to your team practices. The transition pick and roll game puts extreme pressure on the defense and is an early offense in itself. A great teaching tool from a great teacher of the game! 68 minutes. 2007.

Billy Donovan: The Spread "Pick & Roll Offense"
with Billy Donovan, University of Florida Head Coach; 2007 & 2006 NCAA Champions, 2000 NCAA Runner-up; One of only two people ever to serve as head coach, assistant coach, and player in a Final FourCoach Donovan has mastered the pick and roll offense, which has led to back-to-back NCAA championships, and has begun to duplicate itself in hundreds of gyms across the country. He begins by exploring the philosophy and building of this effective attack, starting with the flat pick and roll by a post player at the top of the key. He teaches the flat option 5-on-0, then shows it in action 5-on-5. Multiple opportunities to score come from this one concept in the half court. Major teaching points in the offense include: reads, slipping, spacing and screening angles. Real game situations are presented to help coaches anticipate their opponent's strategies when playing the pick and roll offense. Donovan has discovered three main ways the pick and roll is defended in college, and instructs the offense how to counter every move, including the switch and double team trap. When attacking the defensive 'show,' Donovan teaches the slip or ball reversal. This offense forces the defense to get back in transition and match up quickly, constantly close out and contain penetration. Every defensive adjustment to the pick and roll can be countered by the pick and roll. 62 minutes. 2007.
