Early Offense into the High Post Offense
with Ric Wesley,
Grand Valley State University Head Coach,
.814 winning percentage at GVS;
GLIAC North Division Champions 4 out of last 5 years;
NCAA Tournament participants 5 straight years;
DII Elite 8 2006-07 and 2007-08;
2008 Basketball Times' DII Co-Coach of the Year

Develop an offense that rewards cutting and ball movement.

Year-in and year-out, Ric Wesley's teams have controlled the game with their defense. Using this early offense and flowing into the high post motion has allowed his teams to keep the pressure on his opponents and control the game at both ends of the floor.

In this on-court clinic presentation, Coach Wesley begins with an overview of the basic set up to the High Post Offense. Learn the basic positioning to his high post set, as well as the rules to the offense and its advantages. This offense lends itself to good spacing, good dribble penetration, good back-cutting angles and it's fun for players to run.

Wesley explains how he developed his early offense and then shows you some of the quick hitters you can get out of the early offense. These quick hitters are designed to allow your team to pressure your opponents, to get your point guard away from pressure, to use high-low post action, and release versus pressure defense.

He concludes the presentation with his Zone Offense Philosophy and shows you some actions he uses with his teams. Learn some of the Early Offense action against zone defenses as well as three plays out of a 1-3-1 set versus an even-front zone. You also get an effective set versus an odd-front zone defense.

Give your team the tools it needs to take on any opponent next season. These offensive sets will put your team in the best position to score, utilize your talent and win basketball games.

Geno Auriemma: The Complete Guide to the High Post Offense
with Geno Auriemma,
5X NCAA Championships,
5X National "Coach of the Year"

Coach Auriemma has redefined the meaning of success in college basketball. On the court, his success includes five national championships, five national coach-of-the-year awards and a 20-year record of 557-111 (.834). His topic on this DVD is the High Post Offense as he shares crucial teaching points that have allowed his teams to dominate offensively. Auriemma uses players in live 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 settings to illustrate the principles of the offense. A majority of teaching is done in the 3-0 or 3-3 settings, progressing to 4-on 4 and 5-on-5. Entering the ball into the high post at either elbow is an important skill for guards. The back door/hand off sequence is a quick-hitting option in this offense. On wing entry, the point guard rubs off the high post for a lay-up. The next option is an on ball screen and roll, creating problems for the defense. The small-big back screen also gives flexibility to this well-rounded offense. One of the most difficult cuts to guard is the scissors action at the high post. The dribble weave adds flexibility and is a key to this offense. The "40" series presents the offense with several options from the same action, which makes scouting difficult for opponents. Effective down screens and cutting options are important for the two weak side players. A cornerstone of Auriemma's teaching focuses on "teaching players how to play" versus teaching them plays. A final section discusses how players can read the defense, which is a big part of playing the high post. The 3-Man Read and React drill helps players flourish in the offense. This offense is multi-dimensional and will challenge the defense in many ways. The High Post offense is as effective against zones as man-to-man. Because of its versatility, you can save practice time by working on this multi-purpose offense.
