Cover: continuity offense from the inside out
Continuity Offense from the Inside Out
with Aaron Aanonsen,
Lakeland College Head Coach;
finished 2011-12 ranked 7th in the nation in scoring offense (88.5 ppg) in D-III

Discover a great compliment to motion offense!

In a clinic setting, up-and-coming coach Aaron Aanonsen uses on-court demonstrations to teach his structured, 3-out 2-in Continuity Motion Offense that uses guard-to-post and post-to-guard screens to create mismatches inside and outside. This is the same offense Lakeland used in 2011 when it lead the Northern Athletic Conference in field goal percentage and assist to turnover ratio.

Coach Aanonsen provides you with three entries--a wing entry, post entry, and a 4-high entry--that will allow your players to start the offense by reading the defense. Curls, back screens, and hand-offs within the entries help to weaken wing pressure and allow your offense to dictate the flow. Each entry continues easily into the original motion pattern.

You'll learn the Point Check, Post Check, Strong, Stay, and Cutting Game counters, or "automatics," that easily alter the predictability of a basic continuity and allow the offense to take advantage of cheating or switching defenses. Coach Aanonsen adds five quick hitters to get various players open looks, and each play returns easily to the base offense.

To complete the offensive package, Coach Aanonsen introduces a comprehensive 4-low basket in-bounds series that includes eight plays. This allows you to adjust with quick variations that don't force you to vary your start point.

When players know where their shots are coming from, they can practice shooting from predetermined positions on the floor and build offensive confidence.

This offense is good for a coach who wants some structure and control, but not the predictability or the breakdown problems of running 100% set plays. This is a college level offense that can easily be used on the high school or middle school for any coach wanting to incorporate an offensive package that will introduce structure, reduce turnovers, and produce high percentage shots.

Don Showalter: Continuity Ball Screen Offense
with Don Showalter,
Mid Prairie High (IA) Boy's Head Basketball Coach,
over 500 career wins;
2x USA Basketball Developmental Coach of the Year (2009-10)

Don Showalter reveals the offense that propelled the USA Basketball U16 and U17 teams to gold medals in world competition. This offense is simple enough to run at any level of competition yet effective at keeping defenses on their heels. It is simple to install and players enjoy the freedom that it allows.

Coach Showalter uses on court demonstrators to walk you through his "20" continuity offense which starts in a 1-4 high set and utilizes a ball screen on the wing to get players into what he calls the "kill area." He focuses on the details that make this offense work including the permanent pivot foot, how and where to set the ball screen, and the screen and roll versus screen and go.

Emphasis is placed on reading the defense as the ball handler comes off of the screen and Showalter teaches the reads that must be made against teams that:

  • Go behind the screen
  • Hedge on the screen
  • Double the screen
  • Switch the screen
  • Show early on the screen
Showalter also provides a number of variations designed to take advantage of tendencies established by the offense as the game progresses. The Pop Series, 21, Horns, and the Shuffle Cut are all demonstrated on court.

Finally, Showalter demonstrates how the offense can be used against a zone defense. The basic continuity remains the same but the reads change depending on the movement of the zone.

In an added bonus, Showalter takes time to provide some significant insight valuable to coaches at any level. He discusses the importance of communication and the challenges of getting players to play hard all of the time. He details the top 10 mistakes that high school coaches make and the four "C's" (Choices, Comfort Zone, Compete, and Communication) that he emphasizes with his teams.

This DVD provides coaches with all of the tools necessary to implement this highly successful offense at any level.

Produced at the Fall 2011 Omaha (NE) clinic.

Cover: joanne boyle: high / low continuity offense
Joanne Boyle: High / Low Continuity Offense
with Joanne Boyle,
University of California Head Women's Basketball Coach;
2007-08 Russell Athletic/WBCA Region 8 Coach of the Year

Coach Boyle has energized the Cal Bear's women's program in a few short years. The inertia behind her success is the high scoring high post continuity offense. In this DVD, Boyle breaks down the offense and provides drills to support each part. Boyle teaches and demonstrates six major pieces of the offense in detail. She features options such as strong side, away action, post series, ball screens, dribble hand-offs and early high post screens. Four shooting drills accompany each of these options to make practice sessions just like a game. Boyle intermingles the on-court teaching with game footage that illustrates each part of the offense. In this offense, players can play multiple positions making this a versatile offense when substituting during the game. When coupled with the fast break, the high post continuity offense becomes a scoring giant. Quick scoring options can be executed before the defense has a chance to get set. Because every pass initiates a different facet of the offense, pressure is constantly applied to the defense. This offense is easy to teach and can be a winner at all levels.
