All Access Bucknell Basketball Practice
with Dave Paulsen,
Bucknell University Head Coach; 2011 Patriot League Coach of the Year;
2x D-III National Coach of the Year, 2003 National Championship Coach (Williams College)

Two-time National Coach of the Year Dave Paulsen displays his superior teaching ability and his attention to detail in this All Access DVD.

Coach Paulsen's practices are a great example of efficiency and preparation. Every drill, whether the aim is to improve passing or shooting, is a breakdown drill for their "Buckeye" or Ball Screen Motion Offense. Every 5-on-5 mini-scrimmage has a different twist to emphasize taking care of the ball and heighten defensive intensity. Every defensive drill - from closeout to rebounding to shell drill - includes an element of Paulsen's "Buckeye" motion offense.

A great example is the 4-on-0 shooting drill. In teams of four, players work on every option, one at a time. The viewer - just like the players - learn Coach Paulsen's motion offense step-by-step. The team works on 12 different options, from simple pick-and-pop shots, to more intricate reversals into high-low action. These simple drills pop up later when the team goes 5-on-5 and you actually get to see the 4-on-0 drills in action.

In every practice, a big portion is dedicated to variations of competitive 5-on-5 mini-scrimmages. In general the variations are put on the defense, which in return gives the offense different scenarios to face. Paulsen's focus on defense is to create a swarming defense, giving the offense the impression that the defense "is everywhere." This further ingrains the players' understanding of the motion offense and its numerous options.

"Rush" is a 5-on-4-plus-1 disadvantage drill. In "3 consecutive stops" the best defensive team wins, which really puts the pressure on the offense to perform. In "Score Stop," teams only get points if they can get a defensive stop after a made basket.

In the "Sureness Drill," teams of 3 battle each other trying to advance the ball without turning it over. In full court, as well as half court settings, the teams play each other in full denial pressure and each players is limited to one dribble at a time.

Coach Paulsen's shell drills are set up as a progressive drill. In a 4-on-4 setting, getting a stop gets more difficult as the offensive team goes from static passing, to guard cutters (give-and-go), to baseline flashes and post ups.

Coach Paulsen is a great teacher. Whether it is fundamental footwork during passing drills or stopping play during a 5-on-5 scrimmage, Paulsen delivers basketball knowledge at every juncture. This All Access DVD series will make any coach, at any level, better.

Cover: the coach's plan for building a championship team
The Coach's Plan for Building a Championship Team
with David Boyd,
Milton (GA) High School;
5x state championship coach - only coach in Georgia History to win four State Titles with four different schools;
Over 500 career wins; 3x Georgia Coach of the Year, (2011, 2010, 2001)

Five-time state championship coach David Boyd reveals the little things that must be done in order to build a successful team and basketball program.

Coach Boyd offers "must have" advice starting with his aggressive man-to-man defensive principles and four defensive absolutes that gave up just 49 ppg in 2011. He also gives you the key to his second half success in his smothering 1-3-1 defense and the principles he uses to teach it: Keeping a man between all passing options, trapping options, and aggressive pursuit of the basketball.

Moving to the offensive end of the floor, Coach Boyd talks about the best three ways to score on offense and how an aggressive defense needs to start all offensive set-ups. He then takes you through one of his everyday drills to teach offense, defense, and transition.

If you are trying to build a championship program, then you need to look at Coach Boyd's five principles for building a championship program: Great scheduling, promoting your team through the media, AAU relationships, handling parents with one voice once coach attitude, and working individually with your players in the off-season.

Finally, Boyd takes you through a few of his favorite last-second inbound plays that are sure to help you surprise your opponent.

This championship builder DVD is for any coach who is just starting out or for any coach looking to rebuild a struggling program.

All Access Syracuse Basketball Practice
with Jim Boeheim,
Syracuse University Head Coach;
2010 Naismith college coach of the year
2003 NCAA Champions; 4x Big East Coach of the Year;
Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (2005); US Men's Olympic Assistant Coach (2008 Gold Medal)

In this All Access look at the Syracuse University basketball program you will get an inside look at how Jim Boeheim builds the foundation for his famous 2-3 zone defense and his penetrating half court offense. Coach Boeheim initiates this series of practice sessions with simple explanations of how he organizes each practice.

The practices include warm up drills that address agility and offensive and defensive principles, schemes and drills that put Syracuse at the top of polls year in and year out.

Take advantage of this unique opportunity to explore Jim Boeheim's philosophy on practices and program building!

Part 1:

  • Get the drills you need to develop effective rotations at the top of the 2-3 Zone
  • Learn the 7-on-5 defensive rotation drill, the drill responsible for Syracuse's intense rotations and their ability to cover so many offensive looks
  • Combine ball handling with agility ladder footwork to develop total body control
The staff starts building the famous 2-3 Zone with two defenders learning to play the top of the zone against a variety of situations. You'll see 2-on-2, 3-on-3 and 4-on-4 drills that teach the man-to-man principles that help make the Syracuse zone defense so dominating. This leads into a controlled 5-on-5 full court scrimmage in which both squads are exposed to a variety of half-court and full-court defenses.

Part 2:

  • Expose players to physical contact in rebounding and shooting to produce game-ready skills
  • Teach fundamental close-outs and defensive rotations in competitive 2-on-2, 3-on-3, and 4-on-4 drills
  • Get two quick hitters to use against man-to-man defense
This practice session provides unique insight into understanding defensive rotations on the weak side against scenarios such as ball side penetration and fighting through down screens. You will see a defensive drill progression focusing on the back row of the zone with proper close-out technique and the correct rotation in 2-on-2, 3-on-3, and 4-on-4 match-ups.

In an extended 5-on-5 scrimmage, Coach Boeheim works on a variety of offensive and defensive schemes to explore all options and game scenarios. The practice closes with the Orange executing a series of set plays.

Part 3:

  • See how to breakdown the 2-3 zone defense into position-specific drills
  • Learn to defend against the Pick-and-Roll in a 3-on-3 and a 4-on-4 breakdown drill
  • Discover the drills Syracuse uses as the building blocks of their offense
This disc begins with some valuable Q and A with the coaching staff. They answer questions about the 2-3 zone, player development, how practice evolves throughout the season and motivational tactics within the practice session.

On the court, the coaches run the players through developmental drills for their positions. The guards work on offensive tactics, while the post players continue to develop the offensive and defensive skills necessary for success. The session includes a focus on defending in the 2-3 zone versus the high screen. This essential concept is tirelessly taught to ensure the success of the Syracuse zone. Coach Boeheim puts it all together in the 5 on 5 portion of the practice where he emphasizes 2-3 zone, half-court man-to-man, and full court man-to-man run-and-jump defenses.

Part 4:

  • Learn a simple technique for taking away easy driving lanes to the hoop
  • See how to defend the short corner when playing the 2-3 zone - the weakest spot for any zone defense
  • Get a series of shell drills that teach players the complex 2-3 zone responsibilities step-by-step
This disc begins with a valuable discussion with assistant coach Gerry McNamara who was also part of Syracuse's National championship team. His insight as a coach and former player adds tremendous support to understanding what the Orangemen are all about.

Moving to the court, the emphasis is on how to play the back of the 2-3 zone. This is achieved with a series of breakdown drills showing the slides and responsibilities that are key to its success.

Offensive drills are conducted showing the players how to finish when close to the basket. At the end of practice the team runs through a scouting report on how their next opponent will attack the Syracuse zone defense and what they will do to defend it.

Part 5:

  • Implement the high-low game out of a high screen-and-roll set up
  • Learn how Syracuse runs their "Outside" post move
  • See how Syracuse prepares for a game against a conference rival
With a big game only days away, Syracuse puts all the pieces together in this practice. This practice session is a split of individual skill work, as well as extensive, controlled 5-on-5 full court scrimmages, where you witness Coach Boeheim's genius at work.

The individual skill drills are based on Syracuse's offensive sets and focus on short corner power lay-ups ("cheat step"), as well as the high-low game for Syracuse's "double fist" set. To deepen the understanding and to work on defensive skills in the 2-3 zone, the staff revisits the 5-on-3 shell drill for forwards. The team first runs through some of their offensive sets in a 5-on-0 segment before going full-court 5-on-5.

In this extended controlled scrimmage, coach Boeheim fine-tunes the execution of both offense and defensive schemes. You will gain tremendous insight to coach Boeheim's philosophy,

All Access Williams College Basketball Practice with Mike Maker
with Mike Maker,
Williams College Head Men's Basketball Coach;
two consecutive NCAA D-III Final Four appearances (2009-10, 2010-11)

Mike Maker's offense has been referred to as "the Princeton Offense on steroids." This high paced version of the old classic excites his players and yet maintains the discipline necessary to be one of the most efficient offenses in college basketball. For the first time, you can witness how this coaching veteran of 23 years prepares his team for the upcoming season.

This unique All Access DVD set is packed with breakdown drills and variations of Coach Maker's hybrid Princeton Offense. He shares his 90/10 Concept. 90 percent of his practices are focused on offense while 10 percent are focused on defense.

During the practice Coach Maker runs predominately offensive drills to refine his players' offensive skills sets. Witness how Maker teaches the many Princeton options in a 5-on-0 setting and then allows his players to execute them according to their individual strengths. He encourages his players to follow their instincts as they move into controlled 5-on-5 scrimmages, allowing the offense to evolve.

Coach Maker spends a tremendous amount of time with the team scrimmaging, with an emphasis on running the Princeton Offense. During this time Maker and his staff correct the players in an All-Star fashion to ensure that there is teaching going on, but also to condition the players. This demonstration of the offense in motion is a critical teaching tool for the coach. It's hard to find a team that executes so fluidly within an offensive concept as sophisticated as the Princeton offense. You will understand why it's called "the Princeton on steroids."

There is no down time in Maker's practices and you will benefit from numerous skill and conditioning drills. Each of them is an extension of the overall offense. In separate drills, you will learn how Maker teaches his man-to-man defensive principles in 3-on-3 and 2-on-2 drills. This DVD is the complete package.

In true All Access fashion, you will be able to watch the coaching staff prepare each practice. See them implement their weekly goals into daily practices, as they discuss skill and strategy needs and progressions.

All-Access Skill Development & Conditioning Drills with Billy Donovan
with Billy Donovan, University of Florida Head Coach;
2007 & 2006 NCAA Champions;
One of only two people ever to serve as head coach, assistant coach, and player in a Final Four

From the pre-season agility, conditioning and weight training, to offensive and defensive skill development, this DVD features the complete Florida Gator pre-season program. Filmed on location at the University of Florida during actual practices, two-time National Championship Coach Billy Donovan provides a "live" look inside the Florida Gator Basketball program.

This thorough program is designed to have athletes prepared for the rigors and demands of the upcoming season.

Agility and Conditioning Workout (Disc 1)
Florida Gator Strength and Conditioning Coach Preston Greene delivers a comprehensive dynamic stretching and warm-up segment that incorporates the lane running drill and an intense agility ladder workout that takes players directly into defensive slides.

Players are taken through various close-out and defensive footwork drills designed to improve the athlete's ability to force, pressure and contain the basketball. These drills require physical and mental toughness and stamina.

Coach Greene wraps up the conditioning portion by taking two Gator players through an intense weight training session that features 10 exercises performed with maximum effort and pace.

Perimeter and Post Development (Disc 2)
Coach Donovan takes the floor and leads his players through a fast paced series of shooting and attacking drills. Donovan starts with the Gator guards, as they perform transition shooting drills and dribble moves. He also demonstrates his "shoot and move" series where he emphasizes quickly getting set up to shoot by beating the ball to various spots on the floor.

Donovan delivers the same drill intensity with the post players as he progresses from backboard tips and Mikan drills to various 1-on-1 catch and score drills. Utilizing heavy basketballs and toss-backs, Donovan forces players to compete in each competitive drill. This exhaustive post workout concludes with game-like pick-and-roll and live 2-on-2 post up drills.

What makes this All Access skill development DVD unique is that Donovan provides extensive game highlight footage in between drills demonstrating the relevance of each competitive drill.

Individual Defense (Disc 3)
Donovan explains and demonstrates individual defense as he works in groups of two and four players, working first with the perimeter players and then the post players. Donovan covers all areas of defense ranging from stance and slide technique to help and exchange and ball screen responsibilities. He places emphasis on discouraging the drive, yet taking away the three point shot in all of his competitive defense drills. Donovan adds his competitive twist to learning how to handle screens by incorporating 2-on-2 live as players learn to defend down screens and back screens. He concludes the defensive segment by teaching how to defend the most prevalent play in the game, the ball screen.

Uncover the basketball drills and techniques that have taken the Florida Gators to the NCAA championship platform and sent many Gator players to the NBA.
