'Hammer' Press Offense
with Chris Harney, St. Mary's College (MD)Coach Harney unpacks his full court offensive attack against pressure by providing a mixture of zone and man-to-man principles, drills and concepts. This aggressive and attacking offense has worked successfully at all levels to effectively break pressure against the diamond press. The alignment is a 1-2-2 set with two players at the half court corners. Parts of this offense include a guard decoy cut, sideline jump stop, guard release to the half court line and a 2-on-1 on the other end. Against a 2-2-1 or 1-2-2 press, Harney demonstrates Breaker, his regular press offense. The triangle concept is part of the breaker attack - a trailer, a long diagonal and a middle option. Tom Crean's Dynamic Skill Development Drills
with Tom Crean, Marquette University Head Basketball Coach; 2x Conference USA Coach of the Year; 2003 NCAA Final FourCoach Crean breaks down his entire offense, only to progressively re-assemble his offense to share his philosophy, skills and concepts. Shooting drills are introduced from three different places on the floor. Proper footwork is essential in all of these drills. Cone dribble drills challenge players and each drill ends by finishing the shot. By changing the location of cones, different plays can be worked on. Two essential techniques taught are running the baseline and using the wide pin down. Feeding the post 3-on-3 introduces three different techniques for scoring inside. The 3-12 is a unique drill that builds toughness and finishing. Players exit the drill when they score or are fouled. The challenging 3 minute one-on-one drill is competitive and develops toughness with the ball. A big part of offensive play is the drive and kick game. Crean demonstrates drills that help players see the floor, penetrate and kick to open shooters. 61 minutes. 2008.

Sean Miller: Offensive Player Improvement Drills
with Sean Miller Xavier University Head CoachCoach Miller's philosophy on player improvement is rolled up into four keys; have a plan, establish a conditioning element, design practice to carry over to the game and make footwork the cornerstone of your improvement. Miller illustrates drills that center on skills off the catch, off the dribble and in the post. The explosion series off the catch comes from Larry Brown. Creating space and triple threat position are mandatory for off the catch drills. From the move, Miller teaches the strong side drive, body to body. A major teaching point is playing in a straight line, especially when driving to the hoop. The perimeter drive to low post play is another skill in this series. The second phase of drills is off the dribble. Six two-ball dribbling drills are demonstrated and are the best way to develop the weak hand. The cross over and inside/out dribble move are essential skills in the full court. In the post, players benefit from the toughness series, which simulates the game, has carry over and a conditioning element. These quick, intense drills include the Mikan drill, tip drills and footwork drills. Miller emphasizes that the inside foot is in cement as the outside foot is a kickstand. Baseline finishes prepare post players to catch and score quickly in the post. The final two drills in the toughness series are the X-out drill and one-on-one in the post. 71 minutes. 2007.

Phil Martelli: 11 One-on-One Drills
with Phil Martelli, St. Joseph's University Head Coach; 2004 National Coach of the Year Coach Martelli believes that one-on-one play is an overlooked component of practice in today's game. He preaches that one-on-one play emphasizes skill, conditioning and competition. Everything about Martelli's philosophy includes hard play and competitiveness. In drills, it is the coach's responsibility to work skills of every player. The first drill he introduces uses chairs on the floor to create a half court one-on-one drill. The same drill can be used to focus on stops by the defender. The baseline and top of the key drills are competitive partner drills. The rotational drill keeps players moving from one spot to the next while getting eight reps of one-on-one. Throughout practice, scores are tallied both for individuals and teams. Coach pass one-on-one is a multi-purpose drill where players can play from the perimeter or the post. To keep things fresh, Martelli adds a new drill each day with a different consequence. Coach pass one vs. two, Sutton Drill, slap-n-go, full court one-on-one, Knicks, mismatch and king of the hill, round out an impressive group of one-on-one drills. 71 minutes. 2007.
