Lorenzo Romar: 10 Game Relevant Ball Handling Drills
with Lorenzo Romar,
University of Washington Head Coach

The ball handling drills used in camps and in many practices help players gain the feel and command of the ball. These drills lose their effectiveness when situations in the game require much more. This is where Coach Romar's drills are much more applicable to playing in the game. The on-floor action starts with the one-on-one in a box drill. This challenges the ball handler to get past the defender with very little room, very efficiently. Catching the ball and pivoting are the focus of the 2 second/two dribbles drill. Another great drill is operational one-on-one, which starts at half court. Two defenders are involved against a single offensive player. Each of this drills have been created from realistic situations in games. There is consistent pressure on the ball, putting stress on the ballhandler to make good decisions. Other drills include; zig/zag to one-on-one, pass to one-on-one, driving the closeout & pass option, transition, full speed finish and the full court 6 second drill. The physical, intense and competitive nature of these drills make them invaluable at game time.

Ball Control Drills
with Darren Weissman,
Five-Star Basketball Coach/Instructor

Coach Weissman demonstrates the skills, drills and teaching points used at the Five-Star Camps to present an opportunity for any player to take their ball skills to the next level! Warm-up exercises include ball slaps, fingertip control, around the body, back and forth and front to back. Easy and difficult coordination drills help players push their comfort zones; two ball dribbling drills are a great way to develop coordination and improve ball handling, two-ball figure eight and around the legs drills are challenging, and the scissors drill, the three-ball drill and four-ball drill are for advanced players. The unique multi-task drills begin with the dribble one, shoot one drill - one hand dribbles while the other shoots from close range. Using a wall, the wall/ground drill develops hand quickness and improved ball handling. Combination dribble, pass and move drills can improve a players overall game. Sit down ball handling drills force players to use their arms, fingers and fingertips. The game speed series of drills will help all players, regardless of skill level!

Two Ball Passing, Dribbling and Ball Handling Drills
with Kevin Sutton,
Montverde Academy Men's Basketball Head Coach,
NIKE Skill Academy Instructor

NIKE Skill Academy Instructor Kevin Sutton takes you through this demanding dribble, pass and shoot series of drills designed to push players and improve ball handling. The benefit of improved ball handling is poise, ball control and improved "basketball I.Q." Once fundamental dribbling skills are mastered, Coach Sutton introduces more difficult drills that seriously test players' ability. The "One man drills" features 12 drills that emphasize ball control, passing and shooting. The "Two man drills" involve both the primary ball handler and the receiver of his passes. "Three man drills" become even more difficult and demand that players concentrate and communicate. The fast break series incorporates catching and shooting off the break and requires great teamwork. All of these drills can be extended into the backcourt to increase the difficulty of the workout. Continuing to build the offense, Sutton introduces the two cuts, two shots drill. In this drill, the point guard must have poise to enter the offense, feed his teammate and take two shots up top. Coach Sutton challenges his players and challenges you too by asking, "What are you willing to do to become great?" This DVD is the first step in that journey!
