Becoming a Complete Post Player
with Tony Bergeron, East Longmeadow (MA) High School Head Coach; Five-Star Basketball InstructorAttack the rim on offense and deny the post on defense using strong footwork in any area of the post. Tony Bergeron, Program Director for Five-Star Basketball Camps, delivers a collection of skills and drills to help you develop a dominate post player. It all starts with strong body movements and footwork in the post, which are a pivotal part of being successful in both offense and defense. Coach Bergeron teaches you specific post moves such as front and reverse pivots, rip throughs, and jump stops; as well as corresponding drills for players to utilize them in the post. Scoring in the post is an essential skill for a complete post player. If you can't score down low, you can't be successful on offense. Bergeron provides a variety of moves to help your players overcome the defender and get the ball in the hoop. Moves include the jump hook, turnaround jump shot, up and under, drop step, and what to do in a mismatch. These moves will give your post players a better chance to score in the low post, perimeter and at top of the key. If the opposing player can't get the ball in the post, they can't score in the post. Bergeron concentrates on three methods of post defense: bump, fronting and punch-kick. He pulls all three methods together with his most successful drill that will help post players know where and how to move in order to prevent the ball from entering the post. Five-Star Basketball has more graduates playing college or pro ball than any other organization in basketball. Past and present basketball greats have benefited from the Five-Star camps including Elton Brand, Patrick Ewing, Moses Malone and many others. Turn your post players into offensive and defensive threats today! 52 minutes. 2009.

Ganon Baker's Skill Development Dozen for Post Players
with Ganon Baker; Nike Basketball Training Specialist, Ambidextrous Shooting Coach, and World-renowned Instructor and Clinician "It's not the drill, it's the skill" is a major theme of Ganon Baker's basketball training program. Skill training is imperative for becoming a complete player and Baker is one of the world's best! Post players must master the same skills as perimeter players, including ball handling, passing, driving and shooting. Baker teaches players to get their shoulders lower than the defenders hip. The first emphasis is based on ball handling with two ball dribble drills. Four drills challenge post players to handle the ball efficiently. Taking physical contact is important and is worked into many drills. More difficult are two-ball drills on the move with a finish at the end. Playing in the post is broken down into its most important parts. Footwork, use of body, contact and positioning are all elements of good post play. Scoring from the block area is necessary and Baker demonstrates where to catch the ball, the footwork involved and the specific shot to use for all post players. Competitive one-on-one post move drills put teaching into action. 62 minutes. 2008.

Tom Crean: Post and Perimeter Fundamental Drills
with Tom Crean, Marquette University Head Coach; 2x Conference USA Coach of the Year; 2003 NCAA Final Four The key to player development is drill progression. Coach Crean illustrates how this progression occurs, going from an individual mode to a 1-0, 2-0, 3-0 and 4-0 progression. Explosiveness is the focus to every drill Crean demonstrates, and all drills are designed to put each player in a position to score. Ball handling drills are a vital part of this development. Using cones on the floor, players work on seven drills to change speed and direction. The 2-0 perimeter/post drill works on the inside/out game. A second ball is put into play so the perimeter player works on entry passes, flare screens, go cut and the Houston cut. Every possible game type situation is a part of this multi-purpose 2-0 drill. Post players are taught to post big, finish strong, and "punch in" on the weak side. Post spacing is a technique taught when the post defender is straight behind or in full front. A key skill is two step separation, where the post player separates from the defender. Perimeter players learn to fade at the point of the screen to separate from their defenders. Other key skills are the middle drive, spotting up and two step separation. Crean concludes with his weak side series. The 4-0 progression puts all of the smaller pieces together into a cohesive offensive attack. 73 minutes. 2007.
