Dave Odom: Setting Your Defense Inside of '3'
with Dave Odom, former University of South Carolina and Wake Forest Head Coach; 406 Career wins, Nine NCAA AppearancesHighly successful coach Dave Odom presents a defensive package to fortify the perimeter, lane and basket area. Stopping penetration to the basket is the backbone of this half court defense. He reveals specific teaching tips for on-ball, one pass away and two passes away defenses that will cut down the driving lanes for the offense. Five dominant offensive movements, including the UCLA cut and on ball screens, are eliminated with this stingy half court defense. Using players in 5-on-5 play, Odom points out each strength and deficiency within the defense. Odom promotes a defensive system that is bent on being solid and not giving up penetration. Hubie Brown's Defensive Playbook for Success
with Hubie Brown, Hall of Fame NBA Head CoachHubie Brown's defensive system has been successful at the high school, college, ABA, and NBA levels. A limited number of drills are the key to intense, consistent defense according to Hubie. Keeping practice at 90 minutes allows for properly paced drills and a constant level of increased intensity. He demonstrates the jam and turn technique, which limits the offensive player's view and forces him to turn his shoulder. Drills include the Z drill, which promotes pressure man-to-man defense with proper technique; and the 2-man drill, which focuses on getting the ball into the post. Getting through screens is a difficult skill to perfect on defense. He teaches the shooting the gap technique to take scoring cuts away from good shooters. Teaching points on the close out are no middle, leg up & touch waist and contest the shot. Techniques for defending the back screen, red-white-blue, changing defenses and fronting the post are shown as well. As a bonus, Hubie also mixes in some late game offensive plays that are proven to win close games. 75 minutes. 2008.

Kelvin Sampson's Hoosiers Defense System and Special Late Clock Plays
with Kelvin Sampson, Indiana University Head Coach, '01-'02 National Coach of the YearThe beginning of solid defensive transition starts with great communication. Coach Sampson uses even/odd situations to teach the defense to react and defend in disadvantage situations like 3-on-2, 4-on-3, and 5-on-4. Through the use of drills, Sampson does a detailed job of presenting his brand of stopping the opponent from scoring easy baskets in transition. The first play starts from a triple stack is best used when your team is down 2 points. Post read is the next play and puts pressure on the low post defender. This is a great low clock sideline out-of-bounds play. Others include the push play on the baseline, four across from the sideline and a baseline box play. He ends with three potent set plays. One Down, is a play that gets the ball to the post in a special situation, and Post Shake is a post isolation play. Seth Greenberg: Building Great Defense Through Your Stance
with Seth Greenberg, Virginia Tech University Head Coach; 2005 ACC Coach of the YearCoach Greenberg pulls no punches in this invigorating defense-oriented DVD. Getting in a stance and staying in a stance separates the average teams from the great ones. Greenberg is so committed to stance he designed an intense "stance workout." This workout develops six great qualities in his teams that include toughness, discipline, togetherness, team bonding, peer pressure and an understanding of on and off the ball stance. Using an entire team, Greenberg teaches the details of defensive stance. Items like foot alignment, elbow position, chest out, head up and outside hand are all important. A stickler for details, he carefully makes corrections to each player's stance. Instead of the standard "step-slide" technique, Greenberg teaches quick and short choppy steps. The goal is to influence to the sideline, but make the offensive player drive through your chest. Other key areas that Greenberg covers are the "slide-run-slide," half-court slides, mirror/trace, off ball stance, slipping screens, deny support, close out technique, "low man wins" and the all-in-one drill. 68 minutes. 2007.
